It is with profound sorrow and in humble submission to God’s will that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch Canon Penina Ciambogo Ngungi on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 92 years.
Canon Penina was the devoted wife of the late Maxwell Ngungi Ngari of Kanyuambora, Embu County, daughter of the late Nyaga wa Kinyoro and the late Mucogo Mucirwa, and the daughter-in-law of the late Nicodem Ngari and the late Rakeli Ciambiti Nicodem.
She was a loving mother to the late Emily Mucogo Ngungi, the late Johnson Ngari Ngungi, Hon. Lenny Maxwell Kivuti, Prof. Bancy Mati, Ann Njoki, Patrick Njeru Ngungi, Jennifer Njagi, Dora Lupacchini, and Clara Kagendo.
She was a beloved mother-in-law to Loise Ngari, Dr. Hildah Kivuti, Eng. Nikasius Muverethi, Catherine Njeru, Michael Njagi, and Tom Lupacchini. Her legacy lives on through 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, all of whom she deeply loved and nurtured.
The cortege will depart from Gakwegori Funeral Home, Embu, on the morning of Saturday, November 29, 2025. A funeral service will be held at ACK St. John Kanyuambora Church at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment and final rites at her home in Kanyuambora, Embu County.
May her soul rest peacefully in God’s embrace.

Brother-in-law of Prof. Judy, Wilfrida, Joseph, Bishop Ken & Joy, Violet & Enock Mohol, Col. (Rtd.) Edwin Mboya, Pamela, Caroline Kimiywe. Brother-in-law to the late Gathondu, the late Leah Wanjiru, the late Mwenje, Kahia, Susan, Ngonyo Sambu, Wambui. Uncle to many.
Meetings are ongoing at Avenue Park 2, from 5.30pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday the 7th of October, 2025 at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi at 12 noon. The cortege leaves Nanyuki Cottage Hospital Funeral Home on Friday the 10th of October, 2025 at 9 am. The funeral service and burial will take place at the family’s Ragati Farm in Nanyuki.

She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Nyanumba Nyakwara and co-wife of Zipporah Nyakerario Nyanumba.Cherished mother of Bismarck Ndubi, Vincent Nyamwario and Julius Mikae; and step-mother of Kennedy Agaki, Gladys Bosibori, Emily Moraa, Everline Kwambok, and Douglas Ndubi. Mother-in-law of Nelliah Ondieki, Jeria Nyaitondi and Caroline Bosibori; and grandmother of Faith, Ruth, Alfred, Elle and Jayden.Daughter of the late Julius Kurgat and Rebecca Cherotich; sister of Samuel Boit, Elizabeth Boit, Esther Soy, Benard Boit and others. Sister-in-law of the Nyakwara family and aunt to many.The cortege leaves Pandya Memorial Hospital, Mombasa, on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, for Nyandoche Ibere, Nyamira County. Burial will take place on Friday, 29th August 2025, at her home in Nyandoche Ibere Village.
