Announcement

OBITUARY – THE LATE STEPHEN OMOTO OTEMBO (1958–2025) It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Mr. Stephen Omoto Otembo, who went to be with the Lord on 08 October 2025, while undergoing treatment in Nairobi. Born on 4th April 1958 at Mulago Hospital, Kampala, Uganda, Stephen was the firstborn son of the late Daniel Omoto Otembo and Gladys Nalukwago Otembo. He was brother to the late Dorack Otembo, the late David Otembo, the late Samson Otembo, Patrick Otembo, and Peter Otembo. He was the beloved husband of Christine Otembo and Maryam Yussuf, and a loving father to January Luiza (Waheeda) Otembo, Daniel Omoto Otembo, Sulmon Bahati Otembo, Jackie Otembo, Nadia Otembo, and Beza Blessing Otembo. Stephen was father-in-law to Yahya Ali Banafa and Xolani Mokone, and doting grandfather to Jibril, Jameel, Jaleel Yahya Banafa, and others. He was brother-in-law to Catherine Aura, Carol Otembo, Angela Syokau, Ann Muthiani (UNEP), the late Samuel Kivuva, Kennedy Kivuva, Peter Wambua, the late Maria Mbatha, James Mwatu, Nahum Kivuva (Canada), Josephine Odongo (Canada), and Henry Manthi Laye. Stephen was also a caring uncle to James, Philip, The Dans, Jacinta, Gladys, Nana, Becky, Sophie, Rashid and many more. He was a close cousin to The Kwasas (Judith, Clem, Nick), The Ingaris and many more. A respected construction engineer and quantity surveyor, Stephen founded Westwood Construction Co. Ltd and worked with excellence at Breezes Beach Resort, CPS Fumba, Zuri Hotel, and Skyline Construction in Zanzibar. He was admired for his professionalism, mentorship, and integrity — fondly known as Boss Steve. Stephen was a man of faith, a member of the Miracle Revival Fellowship Pentecostal Church, and will be remembered for his warmth, love of chess, hockey, music, politics, nyamachoma, and his cheerful spirit. The final ceremony will be held on Saturday, 18th October 2025 at Montezuma Chapel. Stephen’s life was one of faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
