Naomi Milai

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Naomi Wia Milai on 6th November 2025 after a long illness bravely borne. She was the devoted wife of the late Senior Assistant Chief Solomon Milai Katithi and the beloved daughter of the late Ngunga Kasivu and the late Nyala Ngunga. She was a co-wife of the late Mary Mukai, late Anne Syombua, late Faith Mutunyi, Ruth Kalwenge, late Alice Muia and Juliana Kavive. A cherished matriarch, Naomi was the loving mother of Joyce Mbiti, Felistus Muthwii, Benrodgers Mwendwa, Benson Ngunga, Judy Mutave Musyoka, Maria Tito, Rebecca Vilita Muthengi, the late Alex Muange and Dr. Nicholas Mutua. She was the sister of the late Kiseki, the late Ngami, the late Nguva, Alice Katuti the late Munyithya, Mwikali Luusa and the late Mukonza. She was the mother in-law of the late Jones Mbiti, late Bernard Muthwii, Augustina Mwendwa, Mary Ngunga, David Musyoka, Tito Mwithi, the late Muthengi Kasamu, the late Munanie Muange and Juliana Mutua. She was a proud grandmother of the Mwendwa’s – Catherine & Dennis, Rachel, Mbiti & Diana, Penninah , Mukai & Myke, late Carolyne & Anthony, Milai & Anne, Debra & Lucky and Joan & Kennedy; the Muthwii’s – Monica & Kiptoo, Elizabeth & Gabriel, David & Hellen, Faith & Lucas, Bridgid & Lintari, George and late Emmanuel; the Mwendwa’s – Mutethya & Kimani, Milai & Anne and Kanyaa & Keith; the Ngunga’s – Milai & Eva, Kitheka & Lucy and Munyithya; the Musyoka’s - Kate, Innocent & Lineth, Vincent & Mercy and Joy; the Titos – Mwithi & Terresia, Kyalo & Damaris, Faith, Mercy, Mwendwa, Joy, Benson, Alex and Judith; the Muthengi’s - Mwende and Tony; the Muange’s - Munyalo and Mawia; the Mutua’s - Sheila and Sasha. Step –mother of Titus Munywoki, Kawasya Kinyala, Boniface Sammy, late Sospeter Mwangangi, Agnes Mwandikwa Mbuti, Rodgers Musyoka, Wilfred Musyingi, Anna Mbila, Francis Peter, Mulalya Musili, Fredrick Musili, Patricia Nzuki, Winfred Ndumu, Pius and Mwanzia among others. A doting great-grandmother of Joy, Rooney, Ryan, Samantha, Keith, Daisy, Denise, Nicole, Nayla, Nigel, Leon, Ethan, Briana, Shanelle, Shawn, Shane, Othniel, Jovane, Kian, Naya, Alayna, Theo, Trevor, Joe, Jimmy, Jebet, Terrence, Sasha, Mwende, Samira, Tiffany, Zoe, Talicia, Kayla, Avery, Adriel, Tyler, Madison, Lindsay, Jerome, Geovannie, Fabian, Victor, Elvis, Christiano, Abigael, Myra, Maria and Skylar. A dear aunt of Justina Mwendwa, Justus Munyithya, Mutisya Munyithya, Kanyaa Luusa- Gache, late Mulyungi Luusa, Ngunga Luusa, Mwende Nguva, Musili Nguva, Muteti Wali and others. Sister in-law of late Munyaka, late Mukunga, late Munima, late Kala, late Nzovi, Ndava Katithi, late Luusa and Wali Nzuki. She was also a cousin to many, and her warmth, wisdom, and grace will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her legacy will continue to live on through her family and loved ones. Friends and family are meeting daily at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi and at her family home in Musengo Village for funeral arrangements. A fundraiser has been organized for Wednesday 12th November 2025 at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi from 5.00p.m. The cortège leaves Montezuma Funeral Home on Friday 14th November 2025 at 7.00 a.m. for a memorial service at Musengo Primary School, Kitui West followed by burial at her home in Ngaani Village, Musengo Location, Kitui County. Eternal Rest O God grant unto her… May Perpetual Light shine upon her soul and may she rest in peace. Amen

Stephen Otembo

OBITUARY – THE LATE STEPHEN OMOTO OTEMBO (1958–2025) It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Mr. Stephen Omoto Otembo, who went to be with the Lord on 08 October 2025, while undergoing treatment in Nairobi. Born on 4th April 1958 at Mulago Hospital, Kampala, Uganda, Stephen was the firstborn son of the late Daniel Omoto Otembo and Gladys Nalukwago Otembo. He was brother to the late Dorack Otembo, the late David Otembo, the late Samson Otembo, Patrick Otembo, and Peter Otembo. He was the beloved husband of Christine Otembo and Maryam Yussuf, and a loving father to January Luiza (Waheeda) Otembo, Daniel Omoto Otembo, Sulmon Bahati Otembo, Jackie Otembo, Nadia Otembo, and Beza Blessing Otembo. Stephen was father-in-law to Yahya Ali Banafa and Xolani Mokone, and doting grandfather to Jibril, Jameel, Jaleel Yahya Banafa, and others. He was brother-in-law to Catherine Aura, Carol Otembo, Angela Syokau, Ann Muthiani (UNEP), the late Samuel Kivuva, Kennedy Kivuva, Peter Wambua, the late Maria Mbatha, James Mwatu, Nahum Kivuva (Canada), Josephine Odongo (Canada), and Henry Manthi Laye. Stephen was also a caring uncle to James, Philip, The Dans, Jacinta, Gladys, Nana, Becky, Sophie, Rashid and many more. He was a close cousin to The Kwasas (Judith, Clem, Nick), The Ingaris and many more. A respected construction engineer and quantity surveyor, Stephen founded Westwood Construction Co. Ltd and worked with excellence at Breezes Beach Resort, CPS Fumba, Zuri Hotel, and Skyline Construction in Zanzibar. He was admired for his professionalism, mentorship, and integrity — fondly known as Boss Steve. Stephen was a man of faith, a member of the Miracle Revival Fellowship Pentecostal Church, and will be remembered for his warmth, love of chess, hockey, music, politics, nyamachoma, and his cheerful spirit. The final ceremony will be held on Saturday, 18th October 2025 at Montezuma Chapel. Stephen’s life was one of faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

Mrs. Mary Warutere

The Almighty God in his divine wisdom called Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wambui Warutere to eternal glory on Friday, 10th October 2025 after an enduring illness. She was the wife of the late Cornelius Warutere Thinwa of Gitunduti village, Magutu Division, Mathira East Sub-county in Nyeri County. Beloved mother of Catherine Wangu (late) & Simon Gicharu, Peter Thinwa & Prof Grace Irimu, Caesar Munene & Rose Gathoni, Jane Kagure (late) & Nelson King’ori, Joseph Mathenge, Charles Kinyua & Anne Mwihaki, Samuel Gachara & Risper Wangechi, Esther Mumbi (late) & Okoth Khaluoch, Rose Kabuci & Dr. David Kimani, and Agnes Gathoni & Andrew Forbes. She was a sister of Charles Mathenge, Rosalia Kabuchi, Francis Gachago, Anna Wanjiku (all late), Joseph Muchoki, Joseph Wachira and Isaiah Githara (late). Funeral arrangements are ongoing at her home in Gitunduti from 4:00 pm daily and in Nairobi, at Cardinal Otunga Plaza, St John Paul Hall on Wednesday, 15th October at 5:30 pm. A requiem mass to celebrate Mary Wambui’s life will be held at St Austin’s Parish, Msongari, on Thursday, 16th October at 2:00 pm. Her cortege leaves Aga Khan University Hospital Mortuary on Monday, 20th October 2025 at 7:00 am, for a funeral mass at St Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Gitunduti at 11:00 am, followed by her interment at her home in Gitunduti the same day. May her soul rest in eternal peace of Christ. “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Loving Grandfather to Angel Eathan, Njuki Ngunyi & Neema Sagina Kihara. Great grandfather of Alina Castillo. Brother of the late Hannah Ngima, the late Major (Rtd.) James Ngunyi, Grace Mwenje, Purity Muthoni, Symon Kihara, the late Millicent Sambu, Agnes Kihara, the late Douglas Wachira. Son-in-law of the late Alfred Nzalwa & the late Abigail Jaluha Kimiywe. Brother-in-law of Prof. Judy, Wilfrida, Joseph, Bishop Ken & Joy, Violet & Enock Mohol, Col. (Rtd.) Edwin Mboya, Pamela, Caroline Kimiywe. Meetings are ongoing at Avenue Park 2, from 5.30pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday the 7th of October, 2025 at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi at 12 noon. The cortege leaves Nanyuki Cottage Hospital Funeral Home on Friday the 10th of October, 2025 at 9 am. The funeral service and burial will take place at the family’s Ragati Farm in Nanyuki.
